‘Learn to Play’ Therapy, created by Karen Stagnitti (2012), is a directive play therapy model in which the play therapist scaffolds the play developmentally for the child. There are many reasons why some children would require support to develop their play skills, including diagnosis of a learning or cognitive impairment, or exposure to trauma. In ‘Learn to Play’ Therapy, children are supported to increase their pretend play skills. Improving skills in pretend play supports emotional, social and cognitive development, and enjoyment in play activities!
